BioA native of the xenophobic planet Daxam, Sodam Yat was obsessed with space and the stars from childhood. Society and his parents forbade such ideas.
Then one day an alien named Tessog crash landed his spacecraft onto the planet. Sodam found Tessog and rescued him from the debris, nursing him back to health. As Tessog recovered, the pilot and the boy learned to trust and later communicate with one another.
When his parents discovered Sodam's friend, they killed the alien and had Sodam brainwashed into thinking that Tessog had been hostile; a threat to the planet and its people. Some years later, Sodam would see the stuffed body of Tessog in Daxam's Natural History Museum and remember the truth. Enraged and disgusted, he vowed to rebuild Tessog's ship and leave his planet forever.
On the day he was to depart, however, he received an unexpected gift. A Green Lantern ring came to him. It had chosen him because of his ability to overcome great fear and offered him a place in the Corps.
